Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls (Iguaçu Falls; Portuguese: Cataratas do Iguaçu, pronounced [kataˈɾatɐs du igwaˈsu]; Spanish: Cataratas del Iguazú, [kataˈɾatas del iɣwaˈsu) are waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian state of Parana and the Argentine province of Misiones. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu.

The name Iguaçu comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y (IPA:[ɨ]) (water) and guasú (IPA:[wa'su]) (big). Legend has it that a god planned to marry a beautiful aborigine named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage, the god sliced the river creating the waterfalls, condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. The first European to find the falls was the Spanish Conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541, after whom one of the falls in the Argentine side is named. (All from the Wikipedia)

Tango in Buenos Aires

Edmundo Rivero was born the 8th of June in 1911, in Avellaneda. He died in 1986 but he´s still being the best Tango singer.
He founded "El Viejo Almacén" which is one of the most important tango tourist atractions in Buenos Aires.
Please make sure of listen "Cafetín the Buenos Aires"... there are many versions... but Rivero´s is the one.
Here you have a video of the song "Jacinto Chiclana" with lyrics from Jorge Luis Borges.

If you visit Argentina you can not miss attending to a match at the Bombonera.
Boca is one of the best teams in the world so you can see nice playing, but not it´s not only the match.. it´s the show around it. Take a look....

It´s higly recommended to make all the arrangements (buy the tickets, etc...) before you travel... because Boca fans are a lot.

Patagonia I: Perito Moreno Glacier

The Perito Moreno glacier is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Argentina. It`s located in the south west of Santa Cruz province, 78 km. far from El Calafate.
The 250 km² ice formation, of 30 km in length, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This icefield is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water.

The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 km wide, with an average height of 60 meters above the surface of the water, with a total ice depth of 170 meters. It advances at a speed of up to 2 m per day (around 700 m per year), although it loses mass at approximately the same rate, meaning that aside from small variations, its terminus has not advanced or receded in the past 90 years. At its deepest part, the glacier has a depth of approximately 700 m.

The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that are not retreating. Periodically the glacier advances over the L-shaped "Lago Argentino" ("Argentine Lake") forming a natural dam which separates the two halves of the lake when it reaches the opposite shore. With no escape route, the water-level on the Brazo Rico side of the lake can rise by up to 30 meters above the level of the main lake. The enormous pressure produced by this mass of waters finally breaks the ice barrier holding it back, in a spectacular rupture event. This dam/rupture cycle is not regular and it naturally recurs at any frequency between once a year to less than once a decade.

Just watch this, isn`t amazing?

Buenos Aires: building politics.

In this post I would like to talk about the two most important buildings in argentinian politics.

One of them is, "La Casa Rosada" (the pink house). Its story begins in 1873 with the construction of the Postal Service building. Years later under the Roca presidency the government building was built beside it. In 1886 the two buiding were joined.

The first session of "El Congreso" was the 12th of may in 1864 under de presidency of Mitre. Behind its walls function the two federal houses: "la Cámara de Senadores" y la "Cámara de Diputados". This is a picture of the Congress in 1910.
